How endotherapy works, step by step

What we do at each treatment, how it differs from spraying the whole tree and the best time to treat.

Step by step

What an endotherapy treatment involves

1

Inspection

During the free visit we look at the tree: its species, size, condition and the pest or problem affecting it.

2

Product and dose

We choose a product authorised for that use and adjust the dose to the tree.

3

Trunk injection

Using dedicated endotherapy equipment, we inject the product into the trunk. The sap carries it throughout the tree.

4

Follow-up

We explain what to expect and when the treatment should be repeated, so your tree stays protected.

Comparison

Endotherapy or spraying the whole tree

In a garden with a pool, a terrace, children or dogs, you'll notice the difference.

EndotherapySpraying the whole tree
Where the product goesInside the treeOnto the crown and everything around it
WindNo effectThe product can drift onto terraces, pools or your neighbours
People and petsMinimal exposureMore exposure during and after treatment
RainDoesn't wash the product offCan reduce the effect
Public and urban areasThe recommended method; some palm products are only authorised this wayMore restrictions

On palms, we combine endotherapy with foliar spray aimed at the crown, so we also kill the adult beetles on the outside.

When to treat

The right time depends on the pest

The treatment itself is always the same. When we treat depends on what's affecting your tree.

ProblemTreesWhen we treat
Red palm weevilPalmsPrevention with three treatments a year: endotherapy plus foliar spray in spring and autumn, and foliar spray only in summer.
Pine processionaryPines and cedarsOnce a year, in October and November, while the caterpillars are still small.
Fungi and chlorosisVarious treesAfter the inspection, depending on the tree and the season.
Regulations: why the applicator's licence matters
In Spain, plant protection treatments in gardens, parks and public areas are regulated by Real Decreto 1311/2012 and Real Decreto 1050/2022. Only products registered and authorised for that use may be applied, and several palm products are only authorised in public areas through endotherapy. That's why it pays to hire a company with a qualified-level applicator's licence, like ours.

More questions

Can I do the endotherapy myself?

No. Only authorised products may be used, and treatments must be carried out by staff with an applicator's licence. Endotherapy also takes the right equipment and experience to avoid damaging the tree.

Which trees can be treated?

Mainly pines and cedars against pine processionary, and palms against red palm weevil. We also treat trees with fungal diseases or chlorosis. During the free visit we'll tell you whether endotherapy is the best option for your situation.
